Medication-Assisted Treatment—

A Proven Path to Lasting Recovery

Recovery looks different for everyone. For many individuals struggling with opioid or alcohol use disorder, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) can be a life-saving component of care. At Bi-Bett, we combine FDA-approved medications with counseling, case management, and recovery support services to give our clients the best possible chance at long-term, sustained recovery.

What Is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the use of FDA-approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a whole-patient approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT is clinically proven to reduce illicit drug use, decrease criminal activity, improve treatment retention, and lower the risk of infectious disease transmission. It is not a substitute for recovery — it is a tool that helps stabilize the brain and body so that healing can truly begin. Bi-Bett offers non-methadone MAT services integrated within our residential and outpatient treatment programs. For clients who may benefit from medical support before beginning MAT, Bi-Bett’s detoxification program offers a safe, supervised withdrawal process as a meaningful first step toward lasting recovery.

Medications Offered

Bi-Bett’s licensed medical providers evaluate each client individually to determine whether medication is appropriate and, if so, which option best fits their needs. Medications we may offer include: Suboxone® (buprenorphine/naloxone), a combination medication that reduces opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms while blocking the euphoric effects of opioids; Sublocade® (buprenorphine extended-release injection), a once-monthly injectable form of buprenorphine that provides steady, consistent medication levels without daily dosing; Vivitrol® (naltrexone), a once-monthly injection that blocks the effects of opioids and alcohol, making it an effective option for clients in recovery from either; and other evidence-based pharmacological options as determined by a licensed medical provider. All medications are prescribed and monitored by qualified clinical staff as part of a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.

Benefits of MAT

Research consistently shows that MAT improves outcomes for people with opioid and alcohol use disorders. Benefits include significantly reduced cravings and withdrawal symptoms, lower risk of relapse and overdose, improved ability to engage in counseling and daily activities, increased treatment retention rates, reduced risk of contracting HIV and hepatitis C, and improved overall physical and mental health. MAT works best when paired with behavioral therapies and peer support — which is exactly how Bi-Bett integrates it into every client’s care plan.

MAT in Residential Treatment

For clients enrolled in Bi-Bett’s Residential Treatment programs, non-methadone MAT services are available on-site under the supervision of licensed medical providers. Clients are evaluated upon admission, and those who are clinically appropriate may begin or continue medications as part of their individualized treatment plan. MAT is integrated with group and individual counseling, life-skills development, and peer support, ensuring that medication is never used in isolation but always as part of a comprehensive recovery approach. Our residential MAT services are available across our Solano, Contra Costa, and Alameda County locations.

MAT in Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment programs are also available at Bi-Bett. Outpatient treatment allows individuals to receive structured recovery support while continuing to live at home, maintain employment, and fulfill family responsibilities. Clients receive regular check-ins, individualized guidance, and ongoing behavioral health support. This flexible model makes it possible for people to access evidence-based care without the disruption of a residential stay — making recovery more accessible for more people.

Medical Oversight and Safety

All MAT services at Bi-Bett are provided under the direct care and supervision of licensed medical professionals. Each client undergoes a thorough medical evaluation before any medication is prescribed, and treatment plans are reviewed and adjusted regularly to ensure safety and effectiveness. We follow all applicable state and federal regulations, including those set by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), and maintain strict protocols to support client well-being throughout the medication management process. Our clinical team works collaboratively across disciplines — medicine, counseling, and case management — to deliver cohesive, person-centered care.

Insurance and Medi-Cal Acceptance

Bi-Bett is a certified Medi-Cal provider, and MAT services may be covered for eligible clients at no cost. We work with clients and their families to navigate insurance benefits and identify all available funding options. We believe that finances should never be a barrier to receiving life-saving treatment. If you have questions about coverage for MAT services, our admissions team is here to help.
